Third Anniversary

Three years ago today, and at this very moment, I was stood in Wells Town Hall getting married to my gorgeous wife Rachel. We did things a little bit of the wrong way round: we had our honeymoon in April, to the Seychelles. We then got married in May in Wells, followed by a party for family and friends in July in one of our local pubs! When we got married, we took our 2 friends as witnesses and paid for them to spend the weekend with us in the beautiful city of Wells, Somerset. However, we very nearly never got married! So, Rachel and I arrived on the evening of Wednesday 22nd May and spent the night at The Crown Inn, For those of you familiar with the film, Hot Fuzz, this is the pub that some of the action takes place in. We even sat outside on the fountain and had an ice cream, like they do in the film! Anyhow, after we had checked in at The Crown, I suggested to Rachel that we go next door and familiarise ourselves with Wells Town Hall in preparation for our wedding on the Friday. For those of you familiar with the modern Poldark, Wells Town Hall doubles as Warleggan Bank in the hit series. So, we step inside the building and are greeted by a lovely lady on reception who asks if she can help. When we tell her what we are there for, we are immediately sent to the manager’s office who precedes to tell us that, although we have booked the registrar, we have not booked the venue! When I explain that we were told that the registrar would do this, he hit the roof! He got straight on the phone and began reading the riot act to whoever was on the other end! Eventually, after a very heated conversation, we were able to book the ceremony through him, then and there and all was right in the world once more!

We spent Thursday night at Stoberry House and we then walked from there into town on the Friday morning, in all our wedding finery. As we were walking through the town, people were wishing us good luck and were nothing but kind. I have to admit that Rachel looked absolutely stunning!

After the ceremony, we went and had lunch at The Fountain Inn, before heading back to Stoberry to change. Later in the evening, we walked back into town, where we had a fantastic meal at Goodfellows before strolling back to Stoberry House a little worse for wear but elated at having finally got married!

All in all, it was an absolutely brilliant weekend in Wells and it is truly something that we have never forgotten!

Roll on all the other anniversaries!

Love & Light
