Take My Troubled Mind Lord

I don’t know exactly what I believe in regarding religion. Some days, I truly believe God is out there and, the next day, I’ll believe just as strongly that he isn’t!

I would love to know for certain that God exists but I guess that’s how religion works. If God does exist, we only meet him when we die but, by then, we can’t go back and tell anyone! I am also very sceptical of people who say that they have died, been to heaven and then returned to tell us all about it, that whole thing just doesn’t sit right with me I’m afraid. All that said, here is a poem that came to me in a dream. The whole thing, fully formed, popped into my head, I woke up and wrote it down immediately. There was no changing the words to make them fit in a better way, I literally woke up and put pen to paper.

I showed this poem to a vicar friend of mine who told me that God worked in mysterious ways and that I should take this as a sign that he does indeed exist! I’m still very sceptical but am trying not to be because I am genuinely surprised by the whole episode! Anyway, here is the poem, just as it came to me in my dream:

Take my troubled mind Lord,

and make it crystal clear.

Brush the silence from my ears,

so your wisdom I may hear.

Lift this veil from across my eyes,

so your glory I may see.

Quench my thirst with Holy water,

so I may talk with Thee.

Take my outstretched hand Lord.

Hold my frail body steady.

Enfold me in your love Lord,

Take me home.

I’m ready.
