The first verse popped into my head already formed. The second verse is based around my cousin’s best friend and how close they got without ever falling in love. The final verse is pure artistic license!
Verse 1
When I was just a little boy,
Up to bed I’d creep.
And my mother would tell me stories,
Until I was fast asleep.
I’d dream of kings and dragons,
And the games I’d yet to play.
Never once believing,
That I would ever feel this way.
Chorus
And I’d like to hold you angel,
But I’m afraid I’ll break your wings.
I’d like to say I love you,
And so many different things.
I’d like to say I’ll treat you,
Like no other can.
But I simply smile, as I pass you by,
Like the stupid fool I am.
Verse 2
Helping out each other,
Through the good and bad.
You were like a sister,
And I the brother you never had.
I could tell you anything,
You’d undress in front of me.
Never once believing,
That you would be the girl I see.
Chorus
And I’d like to hold you angel,
But I’m afraid I’ll break your wings.
I’d like to say I love you,
And so many different things.
I’d like to say I’ll treat you,
Like no other can.
But I simply smile, as I pass you by,
Like the stupid fool I am.
Verse 3
You grew up, got married,
In time you moved away.
I stayed here in this old town,
Trapped by yesterday.
I remember everything,
You’ve forgotten me.
Never once believing,
You would be so far from me.
Chorus
And I’d like to hold you angel,
But I’m afraid I’ll break your wings.
I’d like to say I love you,
And so many different things.
I’d like to say I’ll treat you,
Like no other can.
But I simply smile, as I pass you by,
Like the stupid fool I am.
