About 2 months ago, I was selling something via one of the many Facebook selling sites. The item I was selling was an ordinary small electric lamp that I didn’t want any more. I received a lot of messages about the lamp, all asking the usual questions that could have been answered if they’d only read the advert properly, when a question popped up that said, ‘Is this lamp like any of these? If it is, I will have it.’ There was a link at the bottom and, without thinking, I clicked on the link. Clicking on it took me to a page on the John Lewis website that was full of lamps, and none of them were anything like the one I was selling, so I went back to my item and blocked the person who had sent me the message. Within half an hour, I had another 5 messages, all the same, from different people and I reported and blocked every single one.
Today, a post appeared on my Facebook page, allegedly posted by me, which showed 11 photographs of 2 fully clothed women. One woman was a bit overweight and the other one was quite a bit slimmer. The wording said that one of the women had lost 20 pounds on some amazing diet pills and invited the reader to click on a link to buy them. Shortly after this, the same message was sent via Messenger to all of my 70 friends on Facebook. As soon as I saw the message, I put a post on Facebook saying that my account had been hacked and to ignore any posts that allegedly came from me. I have now deleted my account and, after typing this, I am going to set up a new account and change all my passwords on all my apps and pages.
Be careful out there people! If it’s a link from anyone you don’t know, no matter how innocent it looks, DON’T CLICK ON IT!!!
