As you know, Rachel and I often take Bob Dog for several walks a day around our village. He loves to be out, whatever the weather, although he would prefer that it was dry, and is just so happy to run around off lead. When we first trained him, we tried every phrase we could think of in order to get him to come back to us but nothing worked. One day, in pure frustration, we just shouted, ‘Bye then’ and turned around. About 2 seconds later we glanced over our shoulder and saw this little Jack Russell terrier shaped bullet screaming toward us through the grass! Since then, ‘Bye then’ has been his recall words!!
Today we were walking him around the village and we walked past a friend’s house and they happened to be in the garden. As we passed, they invited us in for a drink and we spent about three quarters of an hour chatting to them about various things whilst Bob Dog was running around their garden with their 2 dogs. After a while, we went on our way and carried on up the road with BD happily trotting by our side. A short time later we passed another friend’s house and seeing that her car was there, we thought we’d call in and say hello. Sadly, she wasn’t in so we continued up the track. As we got to the top of the track, we came across a pasture that another friend of ours rents and we thought we’d pop over and have a look at the new barn that he has recently built. As we approached, we spotted him sat in his deckchair, sipping a beer and gazing out across the surrounding fields. We stopped for a chat with him and let BD off the lead to have a run around, which he absolutely loved!! As we walked away from the barn, we started chatting about just how lovely our life is, how hard we’ve had to work to get to this point, but how lucky we are to get to do all the things we do with all the amazing friends we have!
Make the most of every second of every day. If you’re finding that a struggle then, please, please, please, talk to someone! Get the help you need, because life is worth it!
